My love for photography came early, with a 35mm point and shoot Kodak camera. My dad noticed that we had a common interest and tried, several times, to teach me how to use his manual Minolta...but I had no interest in learning the importance of an aperture or the value of f-stops let alone film and shutter speeds. I wanted to capture images and I enjoyed doing that but my way- in automatic! Well, any true photographer knows that without the knowledge of HOW a camera works and WHAT you do to change and manipulate lighting, you can't go far in photography. So, off to college I went. I graduated with a Bachelors in Visual Communication from the University of Idaho BUT the real education was not learned in a seat in a lecture hall. Yes, I did eventually get the terms drilled into my head to the point of knowing exactly what settings to use in any situation RAIN OR SHINE but the REAL education was created in my 2-year internship with a photographer in Moscow, ID. Dan, at After Image, helped me to gather the other 90% of what makes a photographer. I would spend hours editing/retouching and combing through captures from weddings and engagements. His guidance helped me to become the photographer that I am today. I started my business "MicaJae's Photography" in 2004.

Since then I have enjoyed capturing engaged couples...watching them become husband and wife...taking their baby bump pictures...snapping images of the wiggly toes...laughing as I take their first "family pictures"...EVEN taking that baby's senior pictures and yes even their wedding pictures! I can't say that it feels like I have been doing this that long, but somehow those babies have become brides without me even blinking!

My true love in photography is capturing high school seniors during the time in their lives that they haven't fully realized what is to come. There is still a feeling of comfort knowing that mom and dad are taking care of everything but they know there is a newly found piece to themselves that they are about to find. They have it all put together, but they aren't exactly ready to find out that they really have no idea...this is true FREEDOM and I love capturing that!

Families are also an area that pulls at my heart's strings. There is no faking the way a dad teases his kids or the way a young boy naturally leans into his mom when he feels nervous. Capturing the natural ways families interact, even with a little guidance on my part, is something you can't recreate. I believe every family tells a story- and some choose to display their story as art!
